Giant Pumpkin Festival Is Coming in 11 days!

Get ready to carve out some fall memories — Elk Grove’s beloved Giant Pumpkin Festival is back for its 30th spectacular year, Saturday & Sunday, October 4-5, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Elk Grove Park (9950 Elk Grove-Florin Road). Free admission, $20 parking.

What Floats the Pumpkin Regatta?

Yes, pumpkins can float — and sail. The Pumpkin Regatta is one of the festival’s wildest, most whimsical events. On Sunday, gigantic pumpkins are hollowed out, turned into boats, and raced across the lake. Expect splashes, laughs, and some pumpkins that perform a better float than canoe.

And if you thought that was the big drop, wait — there’s also the Giant Pumpkin Drop. After the regatta, select pumpkin boats will be dropped from heights into the lake near Strauss Island. It’s a “which pumpkin will ride like a boat, and which will flop?” kind of moment.

Weigh-Ins, Contests & Friendly Competition

Pumpkin growers from around California — and beyond — will bring their biggest gourds to be weighed. The festival is known for stunning feats: think pumpkins tipping the scales at over 2,000 pounds. In 2018, one entry reached 2,138 pounds.

There’s also a full slate of pumpkin-and-fall themed contests to get everyone involved:

  • Pumpkin & Produce Weigh-Off: Weigh in early (7-9 a.m. Saturday), see who’s got the heaviest pumpkin, and stick around for the awards.

  • Pumpkin Recipe Contest: Sweet vs. savory — you bring the flavor.

  • Lil’ Pumpkin Cupcake Contest: For kids 12 and under. Four cupcakes + original recipe = fun.

  • Scarecrow Contest & Youth Art Walk: Artists of all ages welcome; themes change yearly — this time it’s “Autumn Memories.”

 Food, Fun & Fall Vibes

Beyond the pumpkins, expect:

  • Food trucks galore — grab all the comfort food, fries, sweets, and seasonal treats your heart (and stomach) desires.

  • Art Walks & Pumpkin  photo-worthy backdrops, creative décor, and plenty of pumpkin-chic ambiance.

When & Where + Practical Tips

  • Dates & Times: October 4 & 5, 2025 | 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.

  • Location: Elk Grove Park, 9950 Elk Grove-Florin Road

  • Parking: $20. Be prepared for traffic, especially midday.

  • Admission: Free. Bring cash for some of the vendors, rides, and contests.

Why This Event Is Special For Everyone!

The Giant Pumpkin Festival isn’t just about enormous gourds. It’s a celebration of community, agriculture, creativity, and autumn in full stride. It’s where gardeners become legends, families share laughs over lopsided pumpkin boats, and kids get sticky sweet treats and messy face paint. If fall had a party, this is it.

And with over 30 years of tradition, this year promises to be bigger — perhaps in pumpkin size, definitely in spirit. Whether you go for the contests, the surprises, or just the cozy fall vibes, there’s something for everyone.

Everybody seems to have favorite memories of visiting the country farm just outside of town. It is almost a rite of passage where the fall trip to the farm is passed down from generation to generation.

Some people long for the first sign of sweatshirt weather with the change in the seasons. Others love the hands on experience of all the animals, both large and small.

Many squeal with delight while enjoying the old fashioned hayride while eating homemade fudge and caramel apples. But nothing is looked forward to more than the family search for the perfect pumpkin.

That first sight of thousands of orange pumpkins in the pumpkin patch makes even the oldest of visitors turn into kids again. It is always one of everyone’s cherished family memories, year in and year out.

Together We Heal:

Jill’s Heroic Work in Our Community

Grief touches every life, yet too often it leaves people feeling isolated. Jill’s heroism is that she refuses to let anyone walk through it alone. Through Together We Heal Community, she creates safe spaces where loss can be spoken, shared, and slowly transformed into hope.

Support groups, parent-to-parent circles, workshops, and community programs all reflect her belief that healing is stronger when we do it together.

Her care extends beyond the meeting room. Each season, Jill and volunteers cultivate an organic flower field just outside Elk Grove, harvesting “Jars of Joy” bouquets that are freely given to those walking through loss.

The simple gift of fresh flowers—grown and arranged with love—becomes a living reminder that no one is forgotten.

This fall, there’s a chance to step into that healing yourself. The Fall Wellness Retreat will be held Sunday, September 28, 2025, at Grace Vineyards in Galt, CA. It’s a restorative day of mindful practices, grief writing, breakout sessions, and nourishing food—all designed to help you find rest and renewal no matter where you are in your journey.

Because grief touches us all, healing must too. Join Jill—whether in the flower fields, at a support group, or at this retreat—and help turn loss into community and hope.

Elk Grove High School Homecoming

Elk Grove High School is gearing up for a spirited Homecoming celebration this Friday! The day begins with a special schedule, ending at 12:47 PM, just in time for the Homecoming Parade at 1:00 PM.

Students, staff, and community members will line the streets to cheer on creative floats, the marching band, and plenty of Thundering Herd pride.

The excitement carries into the evening with football under the lights. The Varsity game kicks off at 7:15 PM, following the JV matchup, as the Thundering Herd looks to put on a show for alumni, families, and fans.

Expect packed stands, high energy, and a celebration of school spirit that makes Homecoming one of the most memorable nights of the year.

To accommodate the event, road closures and alternative routes will be in effect from 12:45 to 3 p.m. on several roads. Motorists can expect traffic delays and are encouraged to plan accordingly.

Road Closures incude Valley Oak Drive at Elk Grove High School to Vista Grande Way,
Elk Grove-Florin Road in both directions at Elk Grove High School to Elk Grove Boulevard,
Elk Grove Boulevard in both directions from Elk Grove Florin Road to Williamson Drive,
Melrose Avenue and Southside Drive.

Held since 1964, the Elk Grove High School homecoming parade is a time-honored tradition that recognizes its students and showcases their school spirit to the community. An estimated 1,000 students and 500 spectators are expected to participate

Elk Grove Police Department will be on hand to assist with traffic controls and detours during the event. Motorists can expect lane closures along Elk Grove Boulevard and Elk Grove-Florin Road as the student body celebrates this time-honored tradition.

Maverick Fueling Station

On September 18th the Elk Grove Planning Commission approved the proposed Maverick Fueling Station for the intersection of East Stockton Blvd and Grant Line Road. Project will be where the Wild Bill's gun shop and former John Deere buildings are currently. Those will be torn down.
The proposed development includes a ±5,951 square foot convenience store, two fuel canopies with a total of 25 pumps.

One canopy will have high flow dispensers for larger vehicles (i.e. trucks and recreational vehicles), which will have 5 pumps; and the second canopy will be for standard vehicles and will have a total of 20 pumps.
The intersection will be improved some for the development. A free flowing right turn lane from East Stockton to Grant Line will be added. It will be similar to the right turn lane from Elk Grove Blvd to East Stockton. Vehicles turning right will not have to stop.

A handful of people spoke at the meeting. Mostly against the project. Complaints were mostly about traffic, which will be an issue. Other complaints were about crime. EGPD reviewed the proposal and didn't have any issues with it. It will not a be a truck stop. There will be a 90 minute parking limit. No showers there.
