The Elk Grove Unified School District has become California's fourth-largest, posing challenges and opportunities, according to Superintendent Christopher Hoffman. Elk Grove residents are being warned about a scam involving individuals posing as water quality testers who falsely claim the water is unsafe to gain entry into homes and steal personal information.
Bruce Kamilos, General Manager of Elk Grove Water District, stressed that these impostors use fear tactics about water contamination to deceive residents.
Similar scams have been reported in Sacramento, Fairfield, and most recently in South Natomas, where scammers also attempt to sell overpriced water treatment devices.
The Elk Grove Water District assures that local water is safe, meeting or exceeding all state and federal standards, and employees only visit homes upon request, always in official uniform.
Residents should never let unverified individuals inside or share sensitive details, and are urged to report suspicious activity to 3-1-1 or the Elk Grove Police Department.
The Water District continues proactive testing for PFAS and is assisting low-income households through the LIHWAP program, reinforcing its commitment to community safety and support. Read More... |

A 21-year-old Elk Grove man was killed early Monday in a wrong-way crash on Highway 99 near Livingston, while four young passengers suffered serious injuries.
California Highway Patrol reported the collision happened at 2:12 a.m., southbound on Highway 99 just past Hammatt Avenue. The driver was heading north in the southbound fast lane when his Chevrolet Malibu struck a Toyota Camry head-on, driven by a 41-year-old San Bernardino man.
The force of the crash pushed the Chevrolet into a big rig in the slow lane, resulting in a secondary collision. The young driver died at the scene.
Four passengers, ages 18 to 21, were hospitalized with injuries. The Toyota and truck drivers were unhurt and are cooperating with investigators.
Authorities are still determining the cause, and whether alcohol or drugs played a role.
