Elk Grove residents are being warned about a scam involving individuals posing as water quality testers who falsely claim the water is unsafe to gain entry into homes and steal personal information.
Bruce Kamilos, General Manager of Elk Grove Water District, stressed that these impostors use fear tactics about water contamination to deceive residents.
Similar scams have been reported in Sacramento, Fairfield, and most recently in South Natomas, where scammers also attempt to sell overpriced water treatment devices.
The Elk Grove Water District assures that local water is safe, meeting or exceeding all state and federal standards, and employees only visit homes upon request, always in official uniform.
Residents should never let unverified individuals inside or share sensitive details, and are urged to report suspicious activity to 3-1-1 or the Elk Grove Police Department.
The Water District continues proactive testing for PFAS and is assisting low-income households through the LIHWAP program, reinforcing its commitment to community safety and support.
